I am thoroughly spoilt

My swap partner for our birthday celebrations in April was Amira, and I have to apologise in the delay in posting this.  I received not only this beautifully made churn dash with the prettiest fussy cut tea cup centre

IMG_0016

But also this fabulous pastel set of fat quarters, they all have a sweet sewing theme to them.IMG_0018 And how cute is Amiras card check out her blog Little mushroom cap, she does such amazing work.

Thank you Amira.

It is a long way from Canada .................

Mail takes a while, to and from Canada, but it is worth waiting for a beautiful block like this from Ann -

It is actually a deep, vibrant purple rather than the blue in the photo and it is just gorgeous. Thank you so much Ann. This is the block I sent to Ann -

Janet asked  for blue and white. I had a great time making these blocks - simple and different from any I'd made before -

Janet sent a purple pinwheel - soft and gentle colours - so beautiful - I just love it. Thank you so much Janet.

Alison asked for a log cabin block. I've made this block before but not in the striking colours of aqua to teal on one side and lime on the other around a grey centre. This is the one I made -

and here is the lovely pinwheel block that Alison sent me. I love the large prints against the white centre. Thank you so much Alison.

One more purple pinwheel is due any day now. I'm sure it is time to put them all together and stitch a very special quilt just for me. Dark and light, lots of purple or lots of other colours, patterns and plains, they are all so good together and I will have a great time making the arrangement.
I do so appreciate this swap group. Sewing for partners is challenging and satisfying, and receiving from partners always makes me smile and appreciate that 'this was made for me'.

April blocks.....

Deb sent me this lovely Churn Dash block....

and look at my fun extra Block swap birthday present....

.. it's getting cold here in the evenings and I really don't like cold ears so this is perfect...

Thanks Deb... I love both the block and the beanie....

This is the block I sent to Debra who asked for any star in purple and violets ..... with a cream on cream background.... I hope there is enough purples in this.....

Since it is our QBSA's third birthday I sent a stitched initial using one of Michelle's initial patterns - stitched in purples and violets... and a skein of violet thread

LOST DATA – HELP PLEASE

Since I sent the may swap partners out I have had three members email me as they were not allocated a partner, and it seems that some of the data from my spreadsheet has vanished.

So, if you did not get a partner can you please email me so I can find you one, and sadly I will need your postal address and block choice details as well.  I do have a number of members sitting out this month, but if you want to email me to double check that I have everything then thats ok.  Better to be safe than sorry.

I am sooooo sorry that this has happened and I cant explain it, I back up data every month, but did have a tidy up so may have accidently deleted some of you.  So you are not unloved, you just have a swap co ordinator that is a bit silly from time to time. ( either that or gremlins came to visit).

Birthday swaps

This is the block that I sent to Vicki for our birthday swap. I included a Theodore Cleave button and some hand dyed fabric.
This is the superb block I received from Vicki with one of her own bag patterns as the birthday gift. I aim to make the bag in the near future for a gift, just have to get the fabrics together. Thanks for swapping with me for April.

That’s what this block makes me think of, a yummy chocolate with minty filling.

April Block from Robyn

This month I was paired with Robyn and she sent me this lovely block (and a great fat quarter).

Robyn asked for a block incorporating tea cups/teapot/coffee mugs and as I had some fabric with teacups on it I chose to applique on a teapot and added some fussy cut cups as well. Only problem was I forgot to take a photo of the block before I mailed it! Doh!  Hopefully Robyn will post a photo for me once she receives it!

Thanks for being my swap partner this month Robyn!

Happy Birthday To Us!

Today I received from my April partner Brenda in Ohio a wonderful package.  In celebration of our 3rd birthday she sent me a wonderful little box that I will use to put all my cards in as keepsakes.  The colors she used in  the block are beautiful.

As I mailed her package out the mail lady handed me my package from Brenda and I thought that was such wonderful timing.

These are the blocks I did for her.  They are of 1930's prints.
I also included a special surprise in celebration of our 3rd birthday.

I love birthday celebrations. Especially since my birthday in April 1 !

April for Jen

Well a Swap and Birthday swap surprise for Jen in PA...
This is the 'Postage Stamp Block' that I made for her!
Lets say it's a long story Jen & I mis-communicated on a size
of the squares for her postage stamps....so I had made one that was 2" squares! Argh!
Then after looking at the blog where Sue B had made her one I see it's the 1- 1/2" squares.
So, I e-mailed Jen, she was so kind, oh I could as a second choice send her a log-cabin.
....................after thinking about this overnight, I asked myself is that okay? No!
I know that I enjoy getting the blocks I pick so.....
My sister's favorite squares are the postage stamp
and I am trying to get my hand at doing
these a lil-quicker so I grabbed my bin of fabrics that I am collecting in her colors and
made
Jen the postage stamp in a mix of these as scrap colors!
I learned a few big lessons this month.....
#1 Don't sew your block until you hear back and confirm whatever questions you may have. Smile
#2 I will never make a 1- 1/2" postage stamp block..."Quickly"!  (ahem) Ha!
#3 I sure do agree with this is a absolute wonderful block from the days of older quilts!
I see why many love this look.
I so hope that she will like it and it will fit in with her "stamp" collection!
Happy April Swapping Birthday Jen...

Birthday give away

HIP HIP HOORAY,

WE ARE THREE TODAY

birthday

Thank you for all of the ladies that left a lovely comment on our birthday give away post – I got tears in my eyes reading them, knowing how much Quilting block swaps means to you as it also means so much to me.

The winner of our Birthday give away is……

Karen Falzon from New South Wales  picked by Random generator.  Now as I don’t know how to put a pic of this on the blog you will need to trust me that it chose number 13 out of 21, and Karen’s comment was the 13th one in the list of comments.

Karens comments read:

Hi All,:
Happy Birthday everyone. I have been a member for only 7 months and have really enjoyed my swaps. I love chatting to different people from all over the world and love the challenge of learning a new block with every swap. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see what's next!
Karen F

congratulations Your lovely set of fat quarters will be in the post to you early next week.

Sadly, we did not make it to 200 followers, but I will keep an eye on this and do something special when we do make that elusive target.

Hugs, Sue x

Some catch up piccies

This is my February block from Alison. Such different fabrics.. love it.
Alison wanted a string block so I made this in purles and mauves.
This is the block I sent Jenetta. As blue ( and purple ) is a favourite colour I loved doing this one.
Jenetta sent back a wonky star made up of "fabricated" fabrics. So far out of the box, so quirky but it made me smile. Such a great idea. Next to that is the 6" blocks I got from Ann as my first swap in the 6" group. Not sure how I post on that blog. I asked for any block, any colour so this is a big leap of faith but it makes life fun. Thanks Ann I loved them.
Ann wanted blue and white stars so I made one each way( white star and blue star).
Thanks ladies for swapping with me.

March Block Received in Sweden

I've heard today that Carin received her block from me so now I can happily share a photo!

I'm glad it arrived safely!

Cheers,
Sue

Some more chocolate + block swap quilt

This chocolate churn was sent to me by Vicki who I had the pleasure of meeting at the recent Lets get stitched weekend in Adelaide.  Like me, Vicki writes that churn dash is also one of her favourite blocks. Vicki churn Feb 13 I love the dark chocolate with coloured spots, its like a big chocolate freckle.

I have also completed a block swap quilt made with blocks received in the 6 inch group.  Here is a teaser pic and you can read all about it HERE
