Reminder on block size

Hi ladies,

Just a gentle reminder that your finished blocks should be 12.5 inches, square- raw edge to raw edge so when they are put together in a quilt they measure 12 inches.

Some ladies are receiving beautifully made blocks that are 12 inches or less wide which means that they are unable to use them in the friendship swap quilts - very disappointing.  Please measure your blocks before you send them off- there are rulers/ templates available in the 12.5 inch size which would be handy if you are making a lot of this sized blocks.  I may look into getting one of these for myself.

Quilted hugs, Sue

Sawtooth For Sue B.

For the month of August, my swap partner is Sue B!!  She requested a Sawtooth Star in blue or red with a four patch center.  I hope this is what you had in mind, Sue.  I will be putting this in the mail on Monday :)

Blazing arrows for Linda

Well I certainly am ahead of myself which is a good thing.  Tonight I have made this blazing arrow block for Linda Gilli of stray stitches.  Linda is my August swap parner and she requested this striking block in green and white.  I have a lot of green in my stash and deliberated for quite a while on which one to use, but I kept coming back to this one.

I hope Linda likes the choice I have made for her.  It will be heading off to California tomorrow.

Block for April, May and August

Well it has been really crazy around here, my health has not been that good but I am on the mend thank god!  I am happy that I getting better.  Today I have been feeling so well that I thought that I would get caught up on all my blocks but one..  I was doing so well until I realized that I missed JUNE!!!  Well if I am feeling as good tomorrow as I did today I will have June's done as well.

August was the first month since I started this swap that I actually had the colours that my partner wanted and I did not have to go out and buy the fabric YIPPEE for me.

For June, I think that I have some Brights lying around that I can make a Block out out.  So I am hoping that will be done before I go into town to do the post.

Thank you again my block partners for being so understanding and patient in waiting for your blocks.

August members rolling out

Hello lovely ladies,

By now you should have received your August swap partners details from me, they are a little earlier than usual, but that gives you an extra week to plan, make and send your block.

There are 49 members participating in this months swap with 52 members now enrolled.  I am capping the membership again (it was supposed to be at 50), but with a few people sitting out each month for various reasons we still have less than 50 swapping.  New member enquiries will again be redirected to group 2 until my numbers drop off again.  Thank you to Larain for being my double swap queen this month.

I feel like a grumpy old bum - but I don't mean to be, but the essence of what I want to pass on is to communicate with one another, as this is what the group is all about.  I love co ordinating the group, and have found many new friends for which I am eternally grateful.

So, now to make a cuppa and hit the sewing room.

And secondly we have Cate from Queensland, thank you to Doris for swapping with her and also doing 2 swaps this month.  Cates blog is http://vintagecate.blogspot.com/.

We have also had a third member enquire about joining but I am still waiting to hear back from her with her full details.

With these two ladies joining we are back to 50 members, its funny how as soon as some one drops out I get a new member enquire about joining so the member levels stay pretty much the same.

this morning I was able to solve some little misunderstanting with my swap partners (thank you Sue for your help) and in the afternoon I managed to chatch up with the blocks I had to sew.
Heather was my June partner and she asked for a Log Cabin Block in blues and whites with a yellow center. Here it is....

Helen, my July partner wished a Star block in blue shades, so I did a Friendship Star. And here it is....

Carmens star flower - and swappers integrity

New member Carmen contact me as she could not get in touch with her July swap partner, and its a good thing she did.  After some investigation, I discovered this partner has not honoured her May or June swaps leaving two other members without a reciprocal block - how unfair is that, and not to mention nasty.

I have partnered with Carmen this month, and have made her this Star flower block, Carmen requested any block in maroon, dark green and beige.

Now there may be a good reason why this person has not made the block, she could be ill, or have gone away and had forgot to let me know, and if this is the case I do apologise.

What it does reinforce to me, that I want to pass onto all of my lovely ladies that do the right thing is this:

1. Make contact with your partner before you even start to make the block.
2. Allow a week for a reply, remember some members do work full time and may only check their emails once a week.
3. Let me know if you don't get a reply, and I am happy to reassign you a new partner,  I have a pool of fantastic members happy to do an extra swap per month when we get stuck like this.
4. Let me know if you have sent a block to some one, and more than a few weeks has passed since the end of the swap deadline and you have not received your block from them. I am happy to email them for you and chase up your block.
Sadly, I have blocked this member from participating in any more swaps until such as time that she makes contact with me and fulfills her past months swaps.  This is only the second time I have found myself in this position, and its not something I like to do.

I know most of you are fantastic, and do the right thing, and I am very grateful for this, I love co ordinating this group and seeing the talent and artistic flair we have, and the camaraderie that has developed between us all.

Fiona's Star

Loving the post man on Friday, as I had 2 nice squishy parcels (and no bills).  The first one was a lovely bright red Saw tooth star from Fiona, with a cute little patchwork tag.

Thank you Fiona, great star - love the cherry red.  Hugs, Sue.  The other block is a Christmas one so pop on the Christmas block swap blog to see that.

Debra's Wonky House Block

Hi everyone, I am still new at 'blogging', the last time I tried, I forgot the pix!!!! Better luck this time... My partner this month is Debra from Queensland and she has requested WONKY HOUSE. My first ever attempt and I must say, my 'eye' for 'wonkiness' may not be very good. What do you think, Debra? Did I do okay? Hope so!!!
This block will be posted next week and it has been fun doing it.
