How to JOIN quilting block swaps Australia
Hello and thank you for visiting. This is a community group for all Australian quilters to join or just follow. Membership is FREE and you are partnered each month and we make each other a 12 inch quilt block based on our preferences which we swap. (12.5 inches raw edge to raw edge) The emphasis of the group is on friendship and sharing. To find out more or register to join email me on quiltingblocks@hotmail.com This purpose of this blog is to chat and showcase blocks and quilts made by members, kind of like a show and tell . Yours in stitching, Sue

These viruses are making me SICK
Hi all, another SPAM alert. It seems the private message SPAM is still doing the rounds, so to eradicate it I have changed the hot mail account of our group to quiltingblocks@hotmail.com
If you get a Private message, it is not from me. Do not open it or reply to it, as this is how it spreads.
I will no longer be replying to emails on the old address, but will check this account every day and when I am comfortable that its not being used any more I will close it.
I did send out a bulk email a short while ago that you should have received by now. There is no need for you to let me know that you have received one of these messages, please just delete them.
I am truly sorry that this virus got into our group, and I manually entered every contact into the new hot mail address as I did not want to use the import function in case the virus was imported with the contacts. This took me considerable time, and I am happy to have a clean data base again.
Now I can relax and go on holidays, only 4 more working days before I fly off to the tropics and work on my tan.

Blue Star
My partner this month Helen has not been well, and she really was not up to a swap this month. I still wanted to make her a block, to hopefully chase her "blues" away.
Helen requested any star in blues or shades of blue, its really quite challenging getting blues to match, and making this I realised that I dont have any navy blue in my stash, so must remedy that.

A Striking block
I received this stunning block in the mail today from Deb A. I love the simple square in square design and how amazing it can look with the right combination of fabrics. And how did Deb know that I love shoes as well, isnt the card cute. Lucky me, I also recieved some spare fabric. Thanks Deb - fantastic on all counts.
SPAM WARNING - Private messages
Hi members
A few days ago I received a Private message" from a member and naturally opened it. It took me to a competition to win an Ipad or something so I deleted it realising it was SPAM. And now it seems opening it verified my email address and it has sent the same private message to ALL of my contacts, being the members of QBSA.
DO NOT OPEN the message, delete it, and do not reply to it, as this seems to then attach to your contacts. This morning I received 40 private messages plus a lot of questions from members asking me about it. I am sorry about this, but this is what the virus seems to do. I started to reply to them but realsised there were to many so sent a bulk email out and then put this warning on the blog.
If it continues I will have to change the email address of QBSA and attach you all as contacts to the new one, so stay tuned on that. ( I hope it just goes away if we just add it to our junk) but as it comes from our contacts, (being each other) this may be the only way to get rid of it. I cant answer anything about it as I am not sure where it came from or how it works, I am not that computer savvy.

reflecting on our journey
Hello lovely members
I will be sending out the July partners on the weekend of 28/29th July with a whopping 89 members in our group now, its amazing how we have grown from such humble beginnings in April 2010 when I was home on a sick day and filling my time and decided to start a blog and see if I could get a swap group running from it. (and yes I was sick that day).
We have had some hurdles and bumps in the road along the way, splitting to two groups and then merging back into one. Running Christmas and standard swaps from the one group before splitting that into a designated Christmas group with Crafty Pugs at the reins which has since been taken over by the lovely Cathy Cates. Both ladies were very early members of QBSA. If you ever take a look back at the beginning of the blog you will see a lot of my personal stuff on their before I decided to keep this blog purely for the swaps and started Quilted hugs for all of my personal stuff.
We have developed a face book page, and the last time I looked we had 96 likes. We have been featured in Quilters companion magazine, we have a flickr page to photo share and more recently I have managed to secure some fabulous sponsors with the fabulous ladies at the Fat quarter shop agreeing to sponsor us again in September.
I will be going over seas in early August so have decided not to pursue an August give away. I will be taking the ipad and hope to keep up on the gossip and lovely blocks that are displayed on the blog as well as stay in touch when I can with emails.
As we have had a few newbies join
Some housekeeping reminders
Please use only quilt shop quality cotton when making your blocks
Cut block pieces accurately (preferably with a rotary cutter)
Press blocks before sending them
Only send a block you would be happy to receive.
I hope you have enjoyed reading about the journey, and do take the time to read back on some old posts. I do once in awhile and it always makes me smile to see when people joined.

June - July
This is the block I sent to Noelene in June.
I sent her two because when I was ready to put the block in the envelope I read the mail again and noticed that I had misread and started with the wrong colour. So I had to start over again, so they're not really looking the same!
And this is the beautiful blocks I received from her. Yes, she sent me 2 blocks also because the first one turned out to be a bit small (Storm at sea).
For July Elizabeth wanted any star block, so I made a Pat's star (Quilter's cache).
And from her I got this Storm at sea block.
Thank you so very much, Ladies!

Fat quarter shop winner announced
Congratulations to Kerry (Red hat Kerry) for winning the July give away kindly donated by the Fat quarter shop. I used random org for the draw and it picked number 27 out of 32 entries.
Red Hat Kerry said...
Congratulations for safe the arrival of your new Grand daughter Kerry and congratulations on winning this pretty bundle of fabrics. I will email the Fat quarter shop your details and they will ship these directly to you.
I have not approached any fabric suppliers to be a sponsor for August as I will be away for a few weeks drinking cocktails and sunning myself in beautiful Bali. I leave at the beginning of the month and will send out the August swap partners before I leave. I am hoping to have our next give away arranged for September so stay tuned.

Welcome back and old friend + some lovely blocks
I am so excited to welcome back to QBSA with open arms our lovely Crafty Pugs. Many of you would know and swapped with Crafty as she was not only one of our very first members but was also the first lady to take over the reins of the Christmas group from me.
Secondly I am proud to show off some lovely blocks. These were made for Maria by new member Carolyn
Another new member Christie Leigh made this pretty block for Jessisca, both ladies are in our beginners group and poor Christie Leigh was devastated when the block measured 1/2 inch too small. Jessisca said that she didn't mind, but Christie will make another and send both blocks to her.
What lovely members we have to do this.

is a collection of wonderful colours and patterns - just look at the star, and the amazing cat. I love it. Won't it look great against a background of crisp white?
And this is the block I sent to Kerry - it is called Wild Waves, but I have renamed it Twirling Ribbons.
I hope you are pleased Kerry, and that it fits in well with your other blocks.

'Postage Stamps' for Jen PA, USA
Jen's block preference is either a Log Cabin or 'Postage Stamps' style block. Since I had a lot of scraps (who doesn't!!), I have opted for the latter. Just managed to finish the block and I will be posting it in the next few days. Hope you'll be happy with it, Jen.

Fat quarter shop give away time
This month we thank the Fat quarter shop for being our lovely July sponsors. The delightful Stephanie from the Fat quarter shop let me do some shopping to choose a prize and as most of our members are bloggers what better than to offer a Bloggers choice set of Fat Quarters for the give away.
I picked Jeni Bakers selection as I love the modern fresh fabrics and beachy colours - I hope you like what I have picked for you to win.
Jeni talks a lot about colour and what goes with what - I spent quite a bit of time today on her blog absorbing all of her fresh ideas. She also has some brilliant tutorials.
To enter, simply become a follower and pop a comment on this post telling me what you would make from this selection of fabrics if you were the lucky winner. The give away will close on July 15th 2012.
Thank you to Kimberley and Stephanie at the Fat Quarter shop for sponsoring Quilting Block Swaps Australia. Why not pay them a visit now and see what other goodes they have in store. (When I went shopping for the give away prize I signed up for their Mystery BOM)
Jeni has a fabulous blog called In Color Order visit it HERE
