How to JOIN quilting block swaps Australia
Hello and thank you for visiting. This is a community group for all Australian quilters to join or just follow. Membership is FREE and you are partnered each month and we make each other a 12 inch quilt block based on our preferences which we swap. (12.5 inches raw edge to raw edge) The emphasis of the group is on friendship and sharing. To find out more or register to join email me on quiltingblocks@hotmail.com This purpose of this blog is to chat and showcase blocks and quilts made by members, kind of like a show and tell . Yours in stitching, Sue

Somethings fishy
Fiona is my partner for July, and I know its still June but I could not wait to play with some eye spy fabrics and make her a wonky square.
I decided to do an ocean theme:
what can you spy?
Cheryl Munro's Blocks
Received Cheryl's Blocks and I really loved them. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Thanks Cheryl

Alethea's Blue and white block
From across the Tasman we hear of volcanic ash, putting a halt to planes, disrupting travel arrangements of many from the Chilean volcano. But that didn't stop my parcel arriving today from Alethea in New Zealand.
I am thrilled to bits with this block and how precisely Anorina fussy cut the pretty tea cups. Isn't it cute?

July partners sent
Hi Ladies,
By now you should have all received an email from me with your swap partners for July. They are a little earlier than usual but you have all of July to make and send the block so don't panic.
We have 45 lovely ladies participating this month, with 5 members sitting out the swap for various reasons. Thank you to Gemma for being my double swap lady for the month with the odd number of participants. If you have put your hand up for a double swap please bear in mind we only get this opportunity when there is an odd number of swappers or when I have a new member join that wants to swap right away. I do keep track of who has done the swaps and share this around.
We still have 50 members and it seems every time a member drops out a new one joins to take her place. As I cap the numbers at 50, any new enquiries above this get redirected to the block 2 swap. Membership enquiries have been a little quiet over the past few months.
We have 79 followers on the blog now, so there must be ladies sitting and waiting and (watching ) eager to join up at some later date.
If you have not been sent an invite to post directly on the blog or if your invite has expired let me know and I will send this to you. Its lovely to see all the blocks we make each other, such an array of talent.
Thank you all soooo much for supporting the group and being with me on this journey of friendship and discovery.
Happy sewing and quilted hugs, Sue xx

Leenas blocks from Bobbie
Great news, Sue is back!! Missed you and you know what, the blogs have been awfully QUIET!!! I can see that you are well stocked up with fabrics from Thailand and can't wait to get started on them. Lovely selection!!
Bobbie has made me TWO lovely Blocks as she thought the 1st one was lacking 'something'. I love both of them and I am really fortunate that I've got '2 for the price of one'. Thanks Bobbie.
Made Cheryl her 'Liberty Block' and it was done in tye-dye fabrics as I couldn't get a hold of batiks (my apologise). Hopefully it will blend in with her other lovely Blocks. (pic on the 6 inch group blog).
Sue, thanks for blogging for me as always and I think you must have brought the sunshine back with you. We have had some nasty weather last couple of weeks with all that rain and floods. Thank God that's over (hopefully).
See ya.
Lovin' the swaps

As expected a lot of mail was piled up when we arrived home from Phuket. Most;y bills but I did have two items that put a smile on my face.
First was this lovely star block from Sylvia in Calgary Canada, my June swap partner
Sylvia included a lovely hand made card and a piece of blue and white spot fabric for my stash.
My second goodie was this months edition of Homespun magazine.
To see some pics of my holiday in Thailand and some of the goodies I purchased hop onto my blog:

I'm Back, and showcasing a completed quilt
Hi everyone, I am back from my wonderful holiday to Thailand. Arrived home safe and well this morning. and have had a few visitors today as well as a nap. Trying to catch up on the emails (there were over 60 in my inbox), so please be patient if you don't hear from me for a day or so as I work through these. I had planned to stay in touch while on holidays but the wifi at the resort was hit and miss. Some pics will follow in a few days too.
On another note I am proud to announce that Marie, who has been a member of this quilting group for around 12 months has emailed me a pic of her completed Jacobs ladder quilt. Details of the quilt and contributors on members quilts page of the blog.
Sadly 3 members are leaving us this month, but they will stay in touch and follow the blog and hopefully re join when life lets them. We also welcome two new members. Carmen from Robinvale in NSW and Ank from the Netherlands so join me in making them feel welcome
Lastly, I have been getting a lot of SPAM comments on the blog, so I am going to exclude comments from non blog members to hopefully put a stop to this (10 this month).

June Swaps
The postie brought me this great block today from Mary in Ontario. (excuse the magazine in the photo - I just won it in a giveaway).
This is the block I sent to Mary with a few other little goodies.
I had another swap partner this month too. Lovely Silvia from Illawong, NSW. I'm pretty sure it will have arrived by now so here's what I sent.
I do love being part of this group. Thanks to Sue for all your hard work organising us all.

May block for Larissa
Larissa has advised that her block for May has arrived - and she loves it
Larissa asked for Log Cabins, Pinwheels or Dresden Plates in Brighter rather than pastel colours, though not fluros.
I was hoping I had not gone over that line of brights turning into fluros. I had intended to make a traditional log cabin, but a momentary lapse in concentration when cutting turned it into a Courthouse Steps Log Cabin variation. I must say, I am very pleased with this block and am quite relieved that Larissa likes it.
I can't wait to see what I get from Larissa - it is like Christmas every month joining in with these swap groups.
Here is a sneak peek of the block for Larissa (no blog)

A sneak peak
I am going to share just a sneak peak of the block I mailed off to Fiona last week , here in Canada we are experiencing a postal strike so I am hoping that it got on its way before they stopped sorting :-(
It was a fun block to do and I hope that Fiona will like my selection of fabrics and that it gets there before toooooo long .
hugs Sheila

Leena's Block to Bobbie
I received this most beautiful block in the mail today from Leena ...
I love the colours .. thank you so much ...
As I sat up last night looking at the block that I made for Leena ... there was just something I didn't like about it ..... and the longer I looked at it ... the more I saw what it was I did not like ... It was the fabrics I had picked to make the block in .. there was nothing really wrong with them .. they just didn't do the block itself justice .... so .. I remade it ... and it went in todays mail ... I do hope you like the new improved version of the block I made you Leena ... hugs ... Bobbie xxx
sneak peek of the new one ...
yeah I know ... it is no help either is it ... lol

it is the first spool that i have done ... and these swaps are great for that ... getting to make blocks I would possibly never try ....
so much fun...
hugs ... Bobbie
