Perfect log cabin

There has been a bit of chatter in our groups fb page about quilters casche log cabin not measuring up. it's been awhile since I have had to make one so was pleased that my partner this month had a log cabin as her choice so I could "road test" the pattern.

This is for Pauline who wanted it in blues, purples and pinks, and loved batiks, so I put a bit off all of it into the mix.

First here is the finished block under my 12.5 inch square ruler, pretty much spot on.

And here is a look at it without the ruler... I measure at every round and trim slightly if required. Also using a quarter inch foot helps keep it all on track..

Quilters cache is fantastic with all the patterns available, what puts me off slightly is the scant 1/4" seam, so if possible I add to the measurements( if it says cut 5 7/8", I will cut 6" and then trim), works beautifully.

I've never had a problem with the Quilters Cache log cabin or any of theirs actually. I generally find if you use a scant 1/4" seam for everything and trim as you go you end up pretty spot on for size, whatever blocks you make.
