Swap from Annette
Thursday, April 10, 2014
we are 4
Quilting block swaps Australia has recently celebrated its 4th birthday, with over 100 ladies swapping in any one of our four swaps and a whopping 189 members now on our face book group page we have come a long way since I began this journey looking for some friends to swap quilt blocks with me.
With the face book group growing rapidly, and the decline in the use of this blog as a result, I will only be putting up monthly posts on the blog. In all honesty I think the blog will be replaced by the face book group, as not only can you upload photos straight from your phone, but you can live chat with other ladies, share pictures and so on, making it a much more interactive group.
I don't have any plans to close the blog down in the short term but I think there may come a day when its completely running via facebook.
So if you are not a member of our face book group, jump on over and send a request to join, both Cathy and I jointly co ordinate this and its a one stop for all of the groups. ( this is different to our Facebook page which you would " Like".).
There is a birthday giveaway on the face book group, running until April 18th, so whats stopping you, jump on over and take a peek.
April blocks from Sue P.
Sue P. stitched 2 blocks for me - a Scrapbagger and a Goose Creek quilt block - in my requested colours of "scrappy" and "ugly" fabrics. I had to chuckle at Sue's note that stated "..these are two of the most unattractive blocks I've ever made!"... LOL, Sue they are just perfect, you "nailed the brief". Thank you so much, Kerry B.

April swap completed ...
Karen was my lovely partner for April. She asked for an Ohio star in purple with pink or white background. I'm hoping this fits the bill as I used both pink and white........

Blocks for Dagmar
Here are the paper piecing blocks I stitched for Dagmar in Germany - she requested a flower &/or an animal block. The frog reminds me of the local tree frogs (or cane toads!!) here in sunny Queensland.

A big apology ...............
Lori and Donna were my February and March partners, and they both very generously made both of my block options.
I've been distracted with knee replacement surgery and shuffled my blocks and envelopes - I am so sorry, but I can't put the correct names with these beautiful blocks. The blocks are photographed in pairs but at the moment I'm not sure the combinations are correct - sorry ladies!
The fabrics, colours and stitching are just beautiful.
Thank you so much, Jan.

2014 Challenge
Sue set a challenge in January to make something with blocks received in a swap from QBSA. Well it's taken a while from collecting the blocks to deciding what to do with them.... but a decision was made....
Then the next challenge was how to put them together ... so after many hours of deliberation (with input from each family member)..... I finally made my mind up.....
I made a wall hanging for our bedroom (just need DH to put some hooks up for me and then I can take a proper photo), 4 blankets of love for Cheryll (I sent these in February) and a table runner for our dining table.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to these (sorry I really can't remember who they are all from but I received them in 2012 and 2013).

I'm going to make some more blankets of love in "boy" colours and then to start on the 2014 Challenge over at Christmas Quilting block swap Australia...

Finished Star quilt
Finally I have a finish on my star quilt; it's about 68x84", give or take. I collected blocks from both the 12" and the 6" groups as well as from a friend outside the group. A big thank you to everyone who contributed. Sorry for the wonky picture but I'm limited for space here and the weather is too messy to take it outside just now. I'm really happy with how it turned out and it's already gone to it's new home with my son.

March
Leaving our cold winter temps with lots of snow, ice and chilly winds to go and join the block collection of Liz S, where it will enjoy the end of a hot summer in a beautiful valley in Australia!
I do hope it will fit in and be right at home with her collection of autumn colors of different blocks...
log cabins seem to fit in with any quilt! Smile
Hope you like it Liz S.
Blessings~

Another block received
I have been involved with Quilt Block Swap Australia since August 2013. I have just received my tenth 12" block. It was from Beth who lives in Queensland.
I asked for any star in country colours. It isn't as pink as in this photo.
I nearly have enough to put a quilt top together. I'm aiming for 12 blocks.

My happy mail collection
I was very happy today after collecting my mail & I saw there was a parcel from Tasmania.
The end of my holiday last week I was in Tasmania, Hobart, for a day.
My swap partner, Irene, lives there.
She has ended up making me 2 blocks. Lucky me.
This 1st block has some great fabrics.
The 2nd was a new block Irene tried.
Well done Irene & thank you.

February
Tomorrow is already
the next month and I nearly did not get a
picture of this "beautiful"
block I received from Brenda T. posted. (sorry)
It's absolutely lovely & the sewing is so well done and perfect size!
Thank you so very much Brenda I enjoyed swapping with you!
Smile
The block is black & white
we were working on a Valentine's
project and I laid it there on the pink.
The colors showed up so bright!
Blessings~
